All of these characters are of my own creation except for the girl playing the guitar on the top right. She is the creation of a friend of mine. Unlike my character designs, the figures I draw for purely illustrative purposes and they are not usually drawn again.

This series of illustrations is based on the picture book What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada. I was commissioned by Think Space to create these three illustrations to be printed and installed in one of the offices they rent out to clients. I decided to design the installation as 3 major scenes from the story printed onto color-tinted glass to fill the background with a nice blue color! Unfortunately, in the photo at the top they were put up in the wrong order when the picture was taken, but it has since then been corrected.

This was my final illustration for my Drawing I class. I was instructed to make a collage out of various images of my choice and then draw a full-scale version of the collage in charcoal. I decided to take a painting I found of a girl at a window and make the main subject matter behind the glass. I settled on an interstellar city with a photograph of an astronaut staring right back at her. I’m unsure if the photo really shows off the effect, but I wanted to emphasize the divide between the girl and her window and the scene in the background, so I actually drew the two “layers” separately. I drew the girl with her window and the curtains, then I took a new sheet of paper and drew the entire scene behind the window. After cutting out the negative space inside the window, I glued small pieces of cardboard to the first layer, then attached it to the background. The result is a strong sense of space between them.
