Samuel R. Delany Magazine Article

Description:

In my Typography I class I was tasked with the project of making a mock magazine spread using a preexisting article. I decided to make mine around Samuel R. Delany, a notable gay science fiction author, and used an article written by Jordy Rosenberg at the New York Times. My goal was to make each page pop with a futuristic yet organic look which ties in well with the themes of his works. Personally, my favorite part of this project was making the bonus last two pages that feature some cover art from some of his books that I fell in love with. I spent some extra time researching the artists and finding the best images I could for them. My one regret with this piece was having to use such low resolution images, but unfortunately there was not a lot of material for me to work with.

Please Note: I am in no way claiming this is an actual New York Times article nor am I claiming any ownership of the article used.

  • On your computer:  All images can be expanded when clicking on them, however, if it’s not enough, right click on an image, then select “Open Image in New Tab” in the sub-menu that pops up. Once in the new tab you can click the image and zoom in with a much greater scale.
  • On your phone: Use your two fingers to pitch the screen and zoom in with ease.
